I am a walking contradiction. A paradox in flesh and bone. Some might say I'm cursed, while others might think me the luckiest person alive. I am a Nephilim, the last surviving member of an ancient race that hasn't existed for thousands of years. To be honest, I think my existence is a colossal, cosmic screw up, but more on that later. First things first - humans aren't alone on this planet. Never have been. Demons are real -- very real. They're so real, in fact, that they've tangled their way into everything: Democracy. Government. The Judicial System. Schools. Hell, even the very notion of freedom itself hasn't escaped their cold touch. It's all totally rigged. Eyes glazing over already? Stick around. It gets way, way crazier. The original Nephilim were real pieces of work. They arose from the illicit union of female humans and demon males -- a legacy so monstrous that Heaven itself tried to erase us. The apocalyptic Century of Drought that turned the earth into a barren hellscape for nearly 100 years was caused by the divine powers to kill off my ancestors, but it couldn't destroy their accomplishments. They were legendary men and women. You know those ancient myths, the tales of gods and heroes like Zeus and Thor? Those were Nephilim. Yeah, the stories are exaggerated, and the names were changed, but they're grounded in reality. Those "gods" existed, and they did things so legendary, so terrifying, that humanity couldn't let them go. And now there's just me. I'm seventeen years old, six-foot-seven, and I look like some snow-haired villain straight out of an anime. Oh, yeah, I'm also a girl. I stand out. Everywhere. But here's the kicker: the worst part isn't my size, or my hair - those are trivial things I can get over. No, the worst part by far is my never-ending involvement with spiritual beings. I can see them at all times, and the real torment is that they can see me too -- and that brings its own kind of hell.
