Growing up in a single parent household in a country at war, Audrey was one of the thousands of latchkey children who survived those troubled years. She gained a place at the local grammar school and subsequently attended college where she qualified as a teacher. Whilst there she met and married the love of her life. These are her treasured memories of a happy childhood, which include venturing across a cold backyard in thick snow to use the toilet, enjoying bathing in a tin bath in front of a roaring fire, sledging in the snow until her toes and fingers were so cold it felt as though they would fall off. She shares her memories of how she grew to love the Dales and Moors of North Yorkshire as she explored them with her friends from a very young age. My Memoirs - 1934 to 1955 is a poignant and evocative collection of Audrey's memories of that time. They may not be in the correct order, certain names now escape her, but overall, these are her true recollections of mainly happy times from well over seventy years ago.
