Born Loreto Lawrence Noble Cortez in 1937. Loury's mother was Australian and his father came from the Philippines. He attended High School in Manila and returned to Melbourne in 1954 to become an Aircraft Mechanic. He went to Papua New Guinea in the sixties and stayed for 25 years. Loury was a Primary school teacher, a shipping manager, OIC Physical Training Wing where he taught self-defence (Philippine Stick Fighting - Arnis) and weapons training at the Bomana Police College; He became Chief of Security with the PNG National Parliament and was employed with the Department of the Prime Minister as Assistant Secretary Building and Security Services; Sportswise he was Secretary General of the PNG Sports Federation that encompassed the Olympic, Commonwealth and South Pacific Games Committees); he was the National Basketball Coach and a member of the PNG National Sports Council. He coached Senior and Junior level basketball in Melbourne and Cairns Queensland. Loury lives with his wife Nela and their son Darren in Cairns, Queensland Australia.
