Hugh Fernyhough was born in East Devon and now in retirement lives with his wife near the town of Dawlish. A university degree course in Hotel and Catering Administration led to a short career in hotel and leisure management. This was followed by a complete change of direction: over thirty years in garden design, landscaping and restoration.The origin of My Wife Suggested Crete was a week's package holiday to a Greek island at the southern edge of Europe in 2011.A lifetime interest in history and landscapes, together with a grounding in the hospitality industry, all contributed to his growing fascination with the island of Crete and her people.Having reached retirement age and now with numerous Cretan holidays happily remembered in countless photo albums, he felt it was time to put pen to paper.
