The author Joseph Walser is an Associate Professor of Religion at Tufts University, Medford Massachusetts. He received his Ph.D. in History of Religions from Northwestern University and is the author of Nagarjuna in Context: Mahayana Buddhism and Early Indian Culture (New York: Columbia University Press, 2005). He is currently writing a social history of early Mahayana.
