Mir Cortez Cáceres is a Los Angeles based artist. She is also the co-founder of Peace4Kids' Revolution of Care Movement (ROCMove), an initiative led by individuals with foster care experience, aiming to change media portrayal of youth in foster care by demystifying the experience. "Nani" is a semi-autobiographical story, as Cortez Cáceres depicts her foster care journey from the perspective of a shooting star. Born to undocumented immigrants from Mexico and El Salvador, she explores the narratives of her parents' upbringings and traumas by translating their experiences in her artwork. Cortez Cáceres first time in the foster care system fueled her desire to understand the systemic factors behind her challenging childhood. Utilizing her research and insights, she draws upon her personal experience to advocate and cultivate equity for youth impacted by adversity and the foster care system. Peace4Kids is a nonprofit organization in South Los Angeles, established in 1998, dedicated to supporting youth in foster care. We sustain long-term relationships with marginalized youth, offering programs for ages 4-25, along with caregiver and family support. Our programs are informed directly by the youth we serve, allowing us to adapt and evolve.
