The practice of "nano-dentistry" has shown the potential of newly developed nanoparticles for periodontal therapies. The depth of the pocket between healthy gums and teeth is around 4 mm, therefore increased penetration of nanoparticles into the tissues around the teeth is anticipated. Nanoparticles are divided into a number of categories. The process of producing nanoparticles is referred to as synthesis. There are several ways to create nanoparticles. These fall under the top-down or bottom-up approach categories. This book also provides examples of how nanoparticles are used in periodontology and in the fields of biology and dentistry.
