In the recent years, nanotechnology has made its way not just in other fields but also in dentistry. Nanotechnology is the product of functional materials and structures in nano scale (1-100 nm), using various physical and chemical methods. Due to the nano scale size, the nanoparticles when added to various materials exhibit novel and improved physical, chemical and biological properties. With the increase in people's living standards and promotion of oral health knowledge, the branch of prosthodontics receives widespread attention. Prosthodontics not only deals with the treatment after tooth loss, but it also requires a sound knowledge of dental materials used. Due to the long term use in moist oral environment, the dental materials used should exhibit biocompatibility and be bio functional. However, nanodentistry faces significant challenges in bringing its promises to fruition.
