Global acceptance of herbal health care increased attention on medicinal & aromatic plants. Therefore; conservation and cultivation of such MAPs gained considerable attention. Nardostachys (Spikenard) is such important medico-religious aromatic herb.Owing to high market demand, overexploitation posed threats to the survival of this herb.Cultivation of such MAPs is useful method for ensuring consistent supply of raw materials and saving valuable plants from extinction. Attempt is made to provide information on useful aspects of Nardostachys jatamansi e.g. utilization pattern, population status, conservation, eco-physiology, phenology, reproductive biology, propagation methods, seed storage behavior, nursery technique, season and method of transplantation, spacing, irrigation methods, crop maintenance, yield, post harvest management, change in chemical constituents during storage, etc. Such information can also be applied directly on other MAPs, whenever, large scale production is desired. It is anticipated that, the information's presented here will be useful for conservation biologist, researchers, academicians, farmers and user industries working on Nardostachys jatamansi.
