There are class textbooks which are recommended to serve specified education curricula. Such textbooks are assessed and found to contain adequate materials that are suitable for the curricula they serve. However, most class textbooks do not contain glossary material that can conveniently assist a reader. In such scenario, the reader has to refer to a separate material such as dictionary, encyclopedia etc. Unexpected interruptions occur in the process of making references. The relevant material may not be readily available altogether. It is on this perception that this concise glossary has been developed. It sets aside definitions and instead provides brief explanations for selected terms with a bias towards geology as applied to construction engineering. The explanations adduced are reinforced with illustrations where applicable. Furthermore, structuring of education curricula in competency format, by Universities in Africa, in collaboration with donors, while capturing expectations of the industry, continues to be undertaken. Indeed, authorship of the narrative glossary material is a positive response in line with the ongoing processes of energized curricula development.
