Carbon sequestration by plants in agroforestry practices is not only an effective solution to cool the planet by reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), but also a way to fight against food insecurity in the South. Its implementation within the framework of the climate resolutions on the limitation of greenhouse gas emissions and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), could generate profits on the monetary and food levels. 10,000 hectares of agroforestry with Faidherbia albida will sequester 3,826,106 tons of CO2 equivalent over 60 years and increase crop yields by more than 100% on 3,110 hectares after 60 years. Another unassessed effect would be the improvement of rainfall and rainfall and the control of erosion (water and wind) and the generation of additional income through the sale of Jatropha curcas seeds to be used as a living hedge.
