Jaime Jackson, ex maniscalco professionista dal 1970, un giorno incontrò un mustang ed ebbe occasione di osservare i suoi zoccoli, così "strani" e sorprendenti. Erano così diversi da ciò che era abituato a vedere e da ciò che tradizionalmente veniva ritenuto "normale", che dal 1982 al 1986 si dedicò a studiare i cavalli selvaggi del Great Basin (USA), le caratteristiche dei loro zoccoli e il loro stile di vita, cambiando per sempre il suo punto di vista sul mondo del cavallo domestico e sulle problematiche ad esso associate. Smise di ferrare e negli anni successivi ideò e sviluppò le "Cure Naturali del Cavallo e dello Zoccolo", di cui fanno parte la tecnica di pareggio naturale basata sul modello del cavallo selvaggio e il sistema di gestione chiamato "Paddock Paradise". Jackson è fondatore e presidente dell'AANHCP e dell'ISNHCP, con la relativa scuola di formazione per professionisti delle cure naturali del cavallo.
