This book is based on a Participatory need assessment conducted to provide background information for the proposed Pilot Project 'Humanitarian Technology Interventions for Improving the Welfare of the Scheduled Tribes in Kerala for the ST population in Kombukuthy, Koruthode Panchayat near Mundakkayam, Kottayam District, By IEEE Kerala Section, coordinated by Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG Kerala) and School of Social Work, Marian College, Kuttikkanam (Autonomous) in Association with the Scheduled Tribe Department of Govt. of Kerala. The area is primarily a tribal hamlet occupied by Hindu Malaaraya Tribe, but other categories of people belonging to general and Dalit community also inhabit the place. Participatory appraisal was conducted in Kombukuthy on 8 April 2018 by a team of 14 trained volunteers and 4 community volunteers with the participation of around 100 villagers. The tools of PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) used in the study were, Daily Routine Analysis, Social and Resource Mapping, Inflow and outflow chart of community resources, Problem Tree analysis and Focus Group Discussion (theme: educational backwardness)

The Author is a Post Graduate in Social Work and pursuing his PhD in Tribal land issues in the Western Ghats. He is working as Head of the programme of BSW , Marian College Kuttikkanam. He is an author of several articles and a book on Living Conditions of Women in Plantations. He is a contributor to EPG Pathasala Project of the UGC.
