Sex has been a discrete and secretive topic of discussion, usually confined to private places. But, exceptionally, it has been depicted at public areas, posing a contrast and conflict. Sex is an act and thought that permeates everyone's life. Proper understanding of it plays a major role in developing an open, healthy, safe, tolerant and happy society. This work focuses on the problems and issues related to sex and sexuality, in India and how museum, as a public and cultural institution, will play a vital role in addressing these issues by creating awareness about this subject and dispelling myths and taboos associated with it. The project gathered and analysed information about history and perception of sex in India from ancient times - as manifested in its art, literature and architecture. Sex Museum has been postulated as an ideal interactive space to provide factual and scientific information in innovative ways and also entertain people of appropriate age groups, genders and orientations. It dwells on the prospect of discussing a private topic at public place. The book could be of interest to the readers of literature on humanities, visual art and museum and gallery studies.
