Robert I. Burns, S.J., Ph.D. (1958, Johns Hopkins), Doc. Es. Sc.Hist. (1961, Fribourg), is a Senior History Professor at the University of California (UCLA) and author of ten books on medieval Spain, including currently "Jews in the Notarial Culture" ("Berkeley, University of California Press," 1996). Paul E. Chevedden, Ph.D. (1986, UCLA) is Professor of History at the Virginia Military Institute and specializes in premodern siege tactics and fortifications. Hee has edited and contributed to "Iberia and the Mediterranean World of the Middle Ages: Essays in Honor of Robert I. Burns, S.J., vol. 2" (Brill, 1996) and has published studies on pre-modern artillery and defensive planning as well as on Arabic epigraphy. "Mikel de Epalza," Ph.D., has held teaching posts in Spanish, French, and Arabic universities and is currently professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Alicante.
