Neighbourhood concept is formed by the neighbourhood's physical and social characteristics; physical characteristics form the "frame" of a neighbourhood, whereas social characteristics form the "main body" of it. These visible and invisible boundaries define the neighbourhood's identity. The literature review about the factors affecting neighbourhood concept shows that all natural, social and built environment factors have a great importance on the nature and development of the neighbourhood concept. As a result of a successful interaction of these factors, a well-defined neighbourhood can promote strong neighbourhood relations. This book first investigates the traditional and contemporary neighbourhood concepts and then analyses three neighbourhoods of Gazimagusa in order to reveal the interface between the built environment and neighbourhood concept.
