Moreover, in the 21st century many minority students are ostracized by conflicting teaching styles, Western Culture's influence on the academic discourse between the student versus the teacher, and problematic teaching methodologies for African American students. In addition, notions concerning writing portfolios are (re)examined in order to provide some solutions for marginalized students who struggle producing quality work.

Monique Leslie Akassi obtuvo un doctorado en Composición y Retórica Inglesa en la Universidad Estatal de Morgan en Baltimore, Maryland, en mayo de 2011. También es profesora de inglés en la Universidad Estatal de Morgan. Sus intereses incluyen la pedagogía de la composición, la crítica retórica, la teoría de la crítica literaria y los temas de la educación estadounidense.
