Autorenporträt
Andrew Joron is an award-winning poet, essayist, and translator. His work takes its inspiration from science, philosophy, and music. He started writing science-fiction poetry, then expanded his scope to include avant-garde and innovative techniques. A reviewer in The Nation magazine compared Joron's recent work to that of the Russian Futurist Velimir Khlebnikov; another reviewer in the Boston Review hailed Joron as "the metaphysician-elect of contemporary American poetry." His most recent book, Trance Archive, was published by City Lights, and his work is represented in two Norton anthologies: American Hybrid and The Norton Anthology of Postmodern American Poetry. Joron also worked in the publishing industry as a professional freelance indexer. He specialized in composing highly analytical indexes for academic monographs with complex content. His major clients included University of California Press and Stanford University Press. Joron is an experimental musician who plays the theremin, a gesture-activated electronic instrument. He is a member of the ambient-drone band Cloud Shepherd, the raga-rock trio Crow Crash Radio, and the free-jazz quartet Ouroboros. Joron currently teaches creative writing at San Francisco State University.
