Sometimes Janine Mendenhall sleeps. But between training her golden retriever and devising suspenseful historical fiction, she's up most nights. In 2017, her first novel, Starving Hearts, was a finalist for both the prestigious Carol Award and Selah Award. Since she has retired from teaching and her four oldest children are mostly out of the nest, she has even more time to watch movies like Poldark, which she still considers research, while her husband, Tom, and her youngest son enjoy her new recipes--when they're not burnt on the edges.
