Microbial infections and oxidative stress have become common sources of untold misery to numerous individuals around the world. Both disease conditions are related because oxidative stress leads to decrease in the adaptation mechanism of human body thereby increasing the body's susceptibility to microbial infections. Methionine is a sulfur-containing amino acid which is totally indispensible in humans and responsible for the production of crucial biochemical molecules namely glutathione, creatine, S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) and taurine. Adequate intake of methionine can prevent Parkinson's disease, obesity, tract infections, colorectal cancer, improve the body immune system and bone development. It has been suggested by many researchers that in order to successfully combat the resistance challenge, new approaches to antibiotics development must be employed ensuring that the new drug molecules work on diverse drug target sites different from the old ones. In view of the urgent need for new antimicrobial and antioxidant agents with improved drug potency, we report in this book, the synthesis of methionine-based sulphonamides with carboxamide moiety.
