The book introduces the design of planetary gear transmissions and provides in-depth coverage of a planetary gearbox with 2-DOF. It emphasizes the fundamental mechanical concepts and illustrates the theory with the worked out designs and prototypes. Also, the book presents key areas of kinematics, dynamics and testing of a planetary gearbox with 2-DOF. A new planetary gearbox has two degrees of freedom and it can be used to adjust the transmission ratio according to the externally applied load. A basic modeling is formulated to characterize both its design and operation. A detailed 3D CAD model is proposed in order to investigate the engineering feasibility of the considered design solution. In addition to 3D CAD model, a proper dynamic model is developed within MSC ADAMS software. By using MSC ADAMS simulation tests are carried out and preliminary discussed to validate the proposed design solution. Finally, tests are proposed to outline output characteristics of a planetary geartransmission experimentally.
