The New York and Pennsylvania (NYP) Railway corporate office and repair shops headquarters were in Canisteo, NY. By researching this short line railroad, author Steve Cotton research has extended into Allegany County, NY and Northern Potter County, Pennsylvania. Through photos and narrative, the nostalgia of the NYP lives in this publication. The railway began in Oswayo, Pa in 1893 and extended northeast into Genesee connecting with the Buffalo & Susquehanna Railroad, before heading into New York State through Whitesville and connecting to the Erie Railroad in Canisteo in 1895. Then from Oswayo it extended northwest to Shinglehouse, Pa in 1900 and back into New York State to Ceres, in 1904 where it met up with the Shawmut Railroad. This narrative talks about the history of the line along with engines, wrecks, and floods for the reader to feel like he's stepped aboard the NYP itself.
