Michael Crichton, 1942 in Chicago, studierte in Harvard Medizin. Crichton, der seit Mitte der sechziger Jahre Romane schrieb, verquickte immer neueste Erkenntnisse aus Naturwissenschaft, Medizin und Technik mit rasanter Handlung. Michael Crichton starb am 4.11.2008 im Alter von 66 Jahren in Los Angeles an Krebs.
