Nicholas Oresko (born January 18, 1917) is a former United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration the Medal of Honor for his actions in World War II. Oresko joined the Army from his birth city of Bayonne, New Jersey, and by January 23, 1945 was serving as a Master Sergeant in Company C, 302nd Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division. On that day, near Tettington, Germany, Oresko single-handedly defeated a German bunker, was seriously wounded, and then destroyed a second bunker despite his injuries. For his actions, he was issued the Medal of Honor nine months later, on October 30, 1945.
