Al Bettencourt retired as executive director from the Rhode Island Farm Bureau in 2015 and operates a small farm in Rhode Island with his wife, Gail. Gail has always owned a dog and decided to adopt Nicky in the year 2000. She met Al in 2001, and they both took care of Nicky. Al has always enjoyed writing. He wrote the newsletter for the Rhode Island Farm Bureau each month and their annual program. He is a former teacher and has a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education as well as a master's degree in public administration. He thought Nicky was an extraordinary dog and decided to write his story.
