Noise pollution is the displeasing sound created by humans or machines that disrupts the activities of human as well as animal life and behavior. The major source of noise pollution is motor vehicles, aircraft and industrial machinery. In order to collect real time noise data for entire country, necessity was felt for real time ambient noise monitoring system. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) developed National Ambient Noise Monitoring Programme which includes installation of noise monitoring stations all over India for continuous monitoring. This data from Noise Monitoring System is transferred to Central Receiving Station. At Central Receiving Station analysis of data and visualization of data is done in graph forms or table forms. This helps in the noise level violations deduction and remedial actions could be initiated. In future, this database could be utilized for health driven studies, noise contour maps creation or in revising the noise data for specific zones. The real time noise monitoring network is a versatile solution for continuous monitoring of environmental noise from airports, industries, roads etc. and areas where noise may be a major concern.
