The book is subdivided into 7 sections covering different aspects of clinical applications of NIMV. From modes of ventilation to the proper moment to start noninvasive ventilation; from critical care applications of NIVM (pre-, intra- and post-hospitalization as well as in emergency medicine), to the use outside of ICUs. Its purpose is also considered in several different diseases and settings, including the experience during Covid-19 pandemic and at the end of life.

Autorenporträt
Giuseppe Servillo is full professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at University of Naples Federico II. He is the chief of department of Anesthesia, intensive care and pain therapy. He has published more than 100 papers in the field of critical care medicine and anesthesiology in top journals. His field of interest are ARDS, respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy, COVID-19. He is the past coordinator of the intensive care area of the Italian Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (SIAARTI). Maria Vargas is associate professor in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at University of Naples Federico II. She is the local coordinator of the intensive care unit. She has published more than 70 papers in the field of Intensive care and anesthesiology. Her fields of interest are airway management, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, tracheostomy, COVID-19. She is member of the NEXT committee of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM). She is member of the Education Committee of the Italian society of Anesthesiology and Intensive care (SIAARTI).
