This book is a study of the peace negotiation in the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka. The study is primarily based upon the empirical data and application of theories. The basic objective is to explore the peace negotiation facilitated by the Norwegian government and peacebuilding efforts taken by the Japanese government in the internal ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka from 2000. A new optimism for a long-lasting peace emerged when the Norwegian government was officially invited in 2000 by both the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to facilitate the peace process. This was followed by Japan being officially invited in 2002 by the GOSL, which the LTTE also looked forward to.
