Betsy Perry has hated Christmas ever since she was traumatized by a bad Santa at the age of 10. Now 17, she continues to create mischief to ruin it for others as well. Her father, Jerry, gets laid off from his job and the bills are piling up. Her mother, Dee, becomes ill and can't continue her job. Their neighbor and friend, Rabbi Eli Yamowitz, offers sage advice and bad jokes to help keep their spirits up in their time of crisis. All the while the Rabbi fights the town and their stonewalling to try and get a youth center built. As things get bleaker for Jerry and his family, they learn the true meaning of Christmas from the most unlikely of sources. Sometimes nothing is all you really need.
