This book focuses on the current research area of minimising distribution losses in power system and provides the techniques for loss reduction in distribution system using capacitor placement to improve the existing power grid performance. A dual approach for capacitor placement in distribution systems is adopted, applied and implemented on various IEEE systems to see the efficacy of the techniques. First, the best location for placement is obtained by applying four different methods. Then, the optimization techniques like Differential evolution, Bat algorithm and Cuckoo Search algorithm are applied to determine the optimised sizes of the capacitors to be placed to reduce the losses considerably at the distribution level. It helps the researchers and technologists desirous of applying bio inspired algorithms to the distribution systems.
