Autorenporträt
Growing up in Greenville, NC, Shanda discovered her gift of writing at the age of 7. She won awards and was asked to write poems and short stories in elementary school. Retreating to the world of reading, writing, history and music on her front porch at home became her sanctuary. Reading sometimes 2 books at a time, she was able to study the style of many world-renowned writers and poets such as Zora Neal Hurston, Ernest Hemmingway and Maya Angelou. Shanda the writer has written poems for years and decided that it was finally time to compile them all and share them with others. Her wish is that you can relate to her writings somehow. Whether it's an emotion or a situation that applies to you, at the end of the day, we all feel, cry, laugh, and hope. Attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she obtained a B.S./M.A. in Sociology and Criminology, opened her mind to diverse cultures and beliefs around the world. Studying different cultures and ways of life allows her to add authenticity to her work.
