XIX wieku nalezala do grupy kobiet opiekujacych sie wiezniami, byla takze czlonkinia Kobiecego Kola Oswiaty Ludowej i Czytelni Naukowej dla Kobiet. Jest uznawana za jedna z najwybitniejszych polskich twórców literatury dla dzieci. W utworach dla najmlodszych budowala fikcyjne swiaty bliskie dzieciecej wyobrazni. Codzienna rzeczywistosc czesto mieszala z fantastyka i motywami basniowymi (np. "Na jagody", "O krasnoludkach i sierotce Marysi", "Szkolne przygody Pimpusia Sadelko").
