The work in search of the necropolis began almost a century ago. Despite the eleven hectares of the city that have already come to light and the many objects found, we still do not have a complete picture of the customs of this people who were able to defeat twenty Roman generals in a row and resist for two decades (154-133 B.C.).Since 1905, 43 different surveys have been carried out in the vicinity of Numantia to find the necropolis, but none of them were successful and the valuable information contained in the tombs remained hidden from the eyes of scientists for almost a hundred years. The necropolis was found by poachers in the early 1990's, armed with more modern metal detectors and probably without any rigour, they were not even aware of the importance of what they had found.
