Research based practice is the major concern of modern nursing practice and there is little evidence about whether nurses are aware of studying and using research and the major factors that prevent the utilization of research findings. According to this study, majority of nurses (95.1%) had positive attitude towards research and there was no significant association between level of attitude and sociodemographic and profession related characteristics. Setting related barriers are the highest perceived barriers in application of research findings. The top 5 perceived barriers were: inadequate facilities for implementation, lack of time for nurses to read research, feeling of nurses that she/he has enough authority to change patient care procedures, insufficient time on the job to implement new ideas and research reports/articles are not published fast enough. Top perceived barriers should be decreased through more discussion among stakeholders to promote more research activities and research-based practice. Positive attitude towards research can influence other nurses in establishing an active nursing research culture and promote evidence-based practice in the workplace.
