Increased attention for preparing counselors in addictions and related professionals using evidence-based practices has brought new attention to the importance of developing and implementing related educational training programs. Objective: This study aims to examine the impact of a tailored educational program about addictive behaviors on the nurses' clinical performance with regard to therapeutic attitudes, knowledge, and practice when working with clients who have substance misuse problems. Methods and Subjects: Pre-Post quasi-experimental design was used in this study to test the effectiveness of the educational training program. A sample of 40 nurses was recruited from El Abbasia Mental Health Hospital. Four tools for data collection were used in this study: i.e. the Socio-demographic data sheet, the Substance Dependence Knowledge Questionnaire (SDKQ), Substance Abuse Attitude Survey (SAAS), and Motivational Interview Skills Checklist (MISC).
