They consider it a challenge for nursing because the decisions of the patient and the family must be respected, as well as the policies of public health institutions which need to be reviewed so that the family can remain close to the dying older adult, since it is their right to die in the company of their loved ones. It is recognized that this care is a nursing specialty that requires specific professional knowledge and skills and a certain professional structure in health institutions to accompany the elderly in the hospital to a dignified death.
