This book presents an interdisciplinary study which outlines a theoretical framework for the integration of the teaching of literature with theoretical tenets of cognitive psychology and creativity. The rationale behind the study is based on the fact that pedagogy in the 21st century is focused on the production of critical and creative learners who are active problem solvers. This book outlines a cognitive teaching model for teaching literature in order to nurture students creative thinking and other higher order thinking skills. The model is based on information processing theories of human cognition and Bloom s taxonomy of thinking skills and incorporates contemporary approaches to interpret literary texts.
