A new egg type Japanese quail strain "TANUVAS Namakkal gold Japanese quail" having normal range quail plumage was evolved based on 5-way crossing technique (L32145) by the Department of Poultry Science, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal under Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The production performance of the TANUVAS Namakkal gold Japanese quail is superior to either parents and thus proved "hybrid vigour" and is regularly used for commercial egg production purpose.Since TANUVAS Namakkal gold Japanese quail has better growth rate, high production performance in terms of egg number and egg weight, it requires different nutrient levels than the conventional Japanese quails. Consequently, there is a need of updating optimal nutritional requirements of genetically improved Japanese quails to maximize the production potentiality. Precise nutrient supply reduces feed cost, wastage of nutrients, environmental pollution, bad aroma in poultry house.
