Meat is held in high esteem in most communities. As a nutrient dense red meat, beef is a valuable source of high biological value protein, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, niacin, zinc, phosphorus, and iron. It is also a source of long-chain omega 3 polyunsaturated fats, pantothenic acid, selenium, riboflavin and possibly also vitamin. It also provides a range of endogenous antioxidants and other bioactive elements including ubiquinone, glutathione, carnosine, creatine and taurine. Consequently, beef contains a number of nutrients that are critical to the development and maintenance of key functions in the human body. In fact, several of these nutrients are not found in any other type of food in the abundance and correct proportion that human physiology demands.
