Nutritional knowledge among practicing physicians of Bangladesh has been discussed in this book. A survey was conducted by face-to-face interview with a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was pre-tested and collected data were analyzed. The average correct response to all questions was 48.7%. The results indicate that physicians are generally aware of information which has been publicized in the medical press and promotional leaflets by the drug companies. By contrast they have a poor knowledge of other important topics in nutrition: the typical salt intake of Bangladeshis; the major type of fat in olive oil; the association between excess protein intake and calcium loss; and the type of dietary fiber helpful in lowering the blood cholesterol level (soluble fiber). There was a statistically significant difference on nutrition knowledge scores in three age groups of the study physicians. Besides there was a statistically significant difference on nutrition knowledge scores on the basis of respondents graduating institution. The results of the study suggest that physicians need more up-to-date information and comprehensive education regarding nutrition.
