Manipur State is in the North -Eastern corner of the Indian sub-continent with rich viblovian flora and fauna. It happens to be one of the states of India at the confluence of the Indian and Myanmar plates and at the area of Manipur- Nagaland orogenic belt and facilitated by two Hot Spots namely: Himalayan Hot spot and Indo-Myanmar Hot Spot. So the State is very rich in Biodiversity having many new species. For example among the plants, Shiroy Lily (Lilium macklinae Sealy) is the only lily in the world and its natural home is at Shiroy Hill, Ukhrul and Sangai commonly known as Bro-antlered deer (Rucervus eldii eldii Mc Clelland) is also the only deer in this globe having its natural home at the floating mat habitat (Phumdi) of Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP), Loktak Lake . So the rich biodiversity of Manipur with rare and endemic flora and fauna are in the status of critically threatened one, because of the climatic changes, human anthropogenic factors and other environmental factors thereby, the natural homes are disturbed. As in case of Sangai, the deer is herbivore, it depends on the food plants available on the Phumdi habitat. So it is necessary to conserve Sangai.
