This book presents an intellectual adventure of Obafemi Awolowo into the worlds of politics and education. It provides a link between Awolowo's political thought and his educational ideas, and gives an explanation on how he derives his inspirations from earlier philosophers such as Plato, Hegel and Marx. Awolowo sees a connection between education and development. Development, in this regard, is measured in terms of human development. Hence, Awolowo's aggressive pursuit of education comes with the attack of illiteracy, ignorance and superstition considered to be impediments to both human and state development. This book provides a vivid picture of how Awolowo works out the strategies that make a success of his Free Universal Primary Education programme in Western Nigeria.
