So it was an attempt to treat obesity with Ayurvedic science. Panchakarma is a special branch of Ayurveda. Panchakarma treatments are the five-fold Ayurveda cleansing therapies which get to the root cause of the problem and eliminate the deep seated toxic metabolites (Ama) from the body thereby restoring equilibrium of the Doshas and promoting healthy tissues. So Basti Karma was Selected as a Panchkarma therapy for the treatment of obesity. It its belief of common people, that oil is the reason for weight gain. But according to Ayurveda it reduces weight. So Medicated oil was also given to the patients of obesity as Palliative treatment. Reduction in weight was achieved in both the treatments with significant reduction in Hypercholesterolemia
