The present research is a study on the indistinct in the pictorial plane, whose main objective is to explore the relationship between darkness and the image of women, taking as a reference the technique of realist painters such as Michelangelo Merisi (Caravaggio) and Cristóbal Rojas, among others. For this purpose, the postulates exposed by Heinrich Wölfflin (1974) in relation to his theory of the clear and the indistinct in art were mainly considered. Methodologically, it was based on documentary research, with an interpretative scope, and framed in the modality of special projects, adequate for the creation of tangible products typical of the arts. As a result, based on these contributions, the elaboration of a pictorial plastic work closely related to the theme of woman-darkness was achieved. This made it possible to generate conclusions about the expressive value of darkness as an expressive medium in itself within the visual arts and its possibility for the technical and interpretative approach of the plastic work from multiple angles.
