This thesis is an analysis of the occupation of Germany from 1945 to 1948 as compared to the occupation of Iraq from 2003 to 2005 as viewed from the use of the Diplomatic, Informational, Military, Economic (DIME) methodology. The use of the DIME methodology will allow an in-depth look into the successes and failures, during the two different occupations, and will provide a basis for comparison. The successful occupation and reconstruction of Germany is one of the most crucial successes of the United States in the twentieth century. Plans were made and followed prior to and during the Allied forces advancement across Europe, which provided stability for follow on reconstruction efforts. Many of these same steps seem to have been ignored during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
