Oestrus synchronization is a valuable management tool that has been successfully employed in enhancing reproductive efficiency. Oestrus synchronization through hormonal application is used nowadays to improve the reproductive efficiency of goats. These hormonal applications have so far failed to be consistently effective and besides, some of these biologicals are not easily available or too expensive for farmers in developing countries like India. Use of buck effect can help to advance breeding season and provide a relatively good degree of synchrony. The buck effect is now one of the well established means of manipulating goat reproduction without using much criticized hormonal therapy in today s health-conscious and organic -oriented developed world, where the meat producing small ruminants, though concentrated mainly in developing world, have and will continue to have a great marketing potential.
