We have brought polio down to 0.01 of the population. Most developed countries have forgotten the scourge of paralysis and death caused by this disease. Prevention is our only recourse and we are so very close to accomplishing this goal. About the author: George E. Lewis, The WaterMan, was born in 1934, so he considers himself an 'old artist'. Lewis graduated from Wagner College and he earned a master's degree from Rutgers University. After college, he played professional baseball in the Boston Red Sox organization for several years. He is in the Wagner College, Union County and Rahway High School baseball hall's of fame. He then launched a career as a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch. He retired in 2000 and took an adult education oil painting class in 2002 and was hooked. He uses only one palette knife, no brushes. Lewis now uses his hobby for humanitarian causes to help less fortunate people around the world. As a Rotarian, he has helped over 2,000,000 people in 37 countries. "People, Rotarians, Rotary Clubs and Districts, who buy my paintings, get the extra satisfaction of knowing that they are helping to make the world a better place." The WaterMan. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch in District 6960 Zone 34. He and his wife, Nancy, are Paul Harris Fellows and Rotary International Major Donors. He is also in the Paul Harris Society and the Rotary Foundation awarded him the prestigious honor "Citation For Meritorious Service."
