She was nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1984 and received the Deutscher Jugendbuchpreis award for the best children's book published in Germany. Soraya Hernán-Gòmez has worked as a freelance literary translator for more than 10 years. She has translated more than 40 German and Austrian books in a variety of genres.
