In 1907, William Winlock Miller High School, known as Olympia High School, first opened its doors to the sons and daughters of the South Puget Sound areas pioneer families. Three campuses and a century later, the school remains a vibrant part of the community and a herald of academic and athletic excellence across the state. A walk through time, this volume illustrates the pictorial history of the buildings and campuses, well-known personalities, student life, and traditions that have left an indelible mark on the history of the region. This book touches upon the many institutions that have endured and pays homage to the customs that have been lost or evolved over the decades. From the original campus adjacent to the current state capitol, to the 43 years on Capitol Way, to the dairy farm evolving into a 15-acre complex, now home to William Winlock Miller High School, this work is the most comprehensive study of the history of Olympia High School to date.
Autorenporträt
Author and Olympia High School graduate Jim Kainber followed his dream of a career in politics, returning to Olympia to raise his family in 2005. When asked to chair the 100th anniversary celebration of the William Winlock Miller High School, he had no idea the opportunity would lead to this book. Using images from the University of Washington, MOHAI, the Daily Olympian, and local archives, Kainber has painted this vivid portrait of Olympia High School's century of prestigious history.
