Sylvia grew up as the daughter of a Navy officer who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and married an Army officer who fought in Vietnam. The story of their uninvited guest involved her actual children and is told from the point of view of Boots O'Malley, a real cat who adopted her family. His continuing adventures, including trips to New York City and West Point, will appear in a series of children's books. The actual squirrel involved declined to comment.
